Women's hooded down winter coat

Is it just me, or is finding the perfect winter coat nigh on impossible?

Now that the weather’s getting colder, I’m finding that my go-to jackets aren’t quite keeping me warm enough when I’m out and about. But a winter coat was proving difficult to choose.

I wanted something stylish. Something that could keep me warm without being so thick that it made me look like a round blob. And something that I’d likely get use out of for a fair few years.

So when Lands’ End reached out to ask me to review a winter coat, I jumped at the chance to find  the solution to all my problems.

Lands’ End

Lands’ End is a brand that’s been around since 1963. Originally set up as a brand selling yachting equipment, it has evolved to become a clothing fashion brand. Their mission is to create a more comfortable world.

Women’s Winter Coat Options

Women's hooded down winter coat

Lands’ End boasts a large collection of winter coats for women. From padded, hooded coats to parkas and waterproof jackets, there’s a style – and length – to suit everyone! Each style comes in a wide range of colours, too, which is handy.

Cost

High on sustainability, these coats do not come in cheap. In fact, I’d class them as investment pieces. They are great quality and will last for years to come. Current options will set you back anywhere between £80 and £320 depending on the style you choose. Though you can sometimes find some bargains during sale periods.

Hooded Down Coat

Whilst I was spoilt for choice, I eventually decided on the women’s hooded down winter coat in the shade forest moss. It was delivered quickly, in a lovely gift box, but unfortunately it didn’t quite come in time to be put to the test on our weekend away in the Yorkshire Dales.

Features

The coat boasts a water resistant shell with HyperDRY down insulation. This means that the down filling has been treated so that it absorbs less water.

There are three pockets – one internal pocket at chest height and then two external zipped pockets that blend into the seams. The pockets are fleece lined and extra soft! Lovely and warm for cold hands!

The sleeves are cuffed so that the cold breeze doesn’t blow up your arms. The cuffs, again, are made from a lovely, soft material.

There’s a fur-lined hood which is on poppers to make it detachable. And finally, a two-way zip fastening.

Winter Coat Review

My first impressions of the coat were that it’s a beautiful colour, perfect for the season. It’s an even nicer shade in person than it appears to be in photos online. It fits well but leaves room to wear layers underneath. I ordered mine in a size M and would say it’s true to size.

The length of the coat is perfect. It’s longline, but not too long. I have the regular fit even though I’m quite short, at 5 foot 3. It rests just over half-way down my thighs. This is a perfect length for sitting down on cold, damp benches when out and about.

Even though the coat keeps me nice and warm, it isn’t too bulky. I don’t feel like the Michelin man while wearing it! It’s quite lightweight so it’s easy to carry around if it gets too warm, nor does it take too much packing space up.

I’m really excited to get some more wear out of this coat and to see how warm it keeps me in the winter months!
